Dealing with Anxiety and Isolation 12: Embrace The Power of Smiling! – BGN

The last few weeks and months have no doubt been challenging for all of us in different ways.

It hasn’t been easy to be our usual positive selves, we have all had to adjust to a new “normal” whatever that may be.

We have had good productive weeks with a schedule, learning new things, enjoying time to ourselves and with our families.

Other days and weeks have been more difficult. We have had to fight with the negative thoughts in our heads.

We have been anxious, overwhelmed and scared.

We have missed our loved ones, friends and family and many of us have had to adapt to a new way of living that may have fuelled our anxiety without us even realising it.

Many of us have lived through the anguish and grief of loosing loved ones in a time where we faced restrictions to our preferred way of grieving and healing.

We couldn’t be with our with our loved ones, we we unable attend funerals and were not given the chance to say our final goodbye’s.

It has been tough.

As lockdown starts to ease we are faced with new challenges and new adjustments to a different way of living.

A way of living we are still trying to get our heads around.

People on the streets, neighbours and familiar faces have been hesitant to engage in a conversation or getting too close. (This is slowly improving).

Many of us look stressed, anxious, deep in thought and more serious than we usually are.

I am a smily person by nature and I like to give a smile to people on the streets even if I don’t know them.

I lost my smiles for a while because this has been a particularly tough time for me.

I forgot the power of a smile.

I recently started smiling again and felt the beautiful benefits of it.

Smiling has such powerful healing properties.

It can give you so much joy and make your day that little bit easier.

A smile is a gift for those that need it.

It can light up someones face and can make them feel valued.

A smile can speak a thousand unspoken words and we could all do with a little more kindness and positivity.

A smile can also be rejected and not everyone is ready to receive one and thats ok.

Sometimes people are deep in thought, going through something too heavy and might see right through you.

You smile for you and you keep smiling until it radiates from within.

Until it heals the cracked parts of you that maybe forgot how to smile genuinely and naturally.

Smiling improves your mood and makes you feel better.

It is contagious and a beautiful way to communicate with those you don’t know without words.

It boosts your self-esteem and self-confidence.

It is known to be a stress reliever and can redirect you to more positive thoughts.

So keep smiling, smile for you, for the children that are looking up to you and for the people around you that need a smile even if they don’t realise it.

reflect, love , heal always.
